Covered up to 30k miles on a new VW... 10k or 1 year changes.
Unless I have a warranty concern I think I will pass as my dealer is a 80 mile round trip...actually both dealers in my area.

I figure the 504 spec oil and filter are about $35 total.
I have went 10k on port injected vehicles but I think I will back it down around 7500 miles or less.

Any reason I should let my dealer do the changes?

I hope this post is in the right section but I see where it could fit in several other forums.

Right now I don't see the value in the free oil changes.

I did it with my Saab when it was new. 3 freebies every 10K miles so they could stamp the warranty/maintenance booklet. Had a couple of small warranty items anyway. Round trip was ~200 miles. 15 years later and haven't been back. Still drive the car but Saab went out of business years ago.

I'll give you one reason to use them.
You paid for them.
No such thing as a free oil change.
The cost of them was figured in the price somewhere in the process.
However, you do need to calculate if the cost of fuel and time justify you utilizing them.

Yes on my Monroney sticker says $140.00 but I got $6500 off MSRP...
One member on here told me you can call VW and get that back and void the freebies...Propflux01 had a good idea too...first one..

The 80 mile round trip makes it less than optimal. If closer I'd say as long as you're prepared for the upsell, do it. With the trip, gas and time, guess you would need to determine cost benefit. That assuming the service dept is respectable.

My 2014 Camry had that toyota free 2year/25000 miles free oil change and tire rotation, like once a year or 10k miles with free car wash.Done once oil change refused the tire rotation with free car wash about 2.5 hours ordeal, going to dealer ,waiting and come back.the next year did not come to them,I have to use long pipe to loosen oil filter housing why? the oil drain plug okay no issue.I did my own oil change 20 dollars and 20 minutes.

If you take it in for warranty work (if, lol) have them do an oil change because hey, why not.

Otherwise do 5k oil, 10k filter with 504.
Yeah agreed..knock on wood.
So far so good but if I get a few nitpick items it would be a good time to save it all up for that one oil change visit.

That's what I do. Wait until the list is long enough to be worth the hassle and get it all knocked out.

Have a couple of these nitpicks on my new Honda. Maybe next week. No loaners at my local dealer though, which is rough.

I bought a new 08 Toyota which needed the windshield resealed. I got the car back with grease on 4 or 5 spots in the interior. Fast forward to a new 11 Camry with free oil changes. No thanks. I didn't need to be concerned about the possibility of a stripped drain plug or overtightened cannister or grease here or there. I didn't have to sit in a waiting room wondering which oil was being put in it. Plus I enjoy doing maintenance on my cars.

Never take my cars in for free oil changes, heard too many horror stories, only time I would take a new car in would be warranty work. ;)

Depends on the type of 80 miles. All highway with no traffic I’d do it. Stop and go with traffic no way.
Maybe his VW has a rollback or an accommodating service department that offers pickup/dropoff.

@Zee09, my "local" Audi dealer is 90 miles away and when I owned my Q7 they would drop a loaner in my driveway for $75. Bargain.

When I bought it I drove down in a non trade in so they drove it to me and delivered foc.. Yeah that is a deal. But Audi I'm sure gets a bit more of dealer perks...than a VW??
