This is absolutely correct.
Surf over to the
Consumer Financial Protection Bureau website to read about your rights and the law.
Any credit reporting site that is not a .gov website will try to sell you something and use your personal information as the product.
The three largest credit reporting agencies are required by law to provide you with a free copy of you credit report every 12 months.
The free report from the 3 largest agencies (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion) can only be accessed through
www.annualcreditreport.com.
They are not required to provide you a free copy of your FICO or Vantage credit score, but they can sell you a copy.
Many credit cards provide your FICO score free as a privilege.
Your bank or other financial institution may provide it free to you also if you are a big customer.
If your bank pulls it to help you understand your credit report it could be a hard pull (avoid). I asked and they told me a hard pull.
