I was at Wallmart today and happened to be in the automotive isle. I was blinded by all the orange boxes, but I noticed some that were well worn and faded. I cheked them out and they were fram air filters when fram was made by allied signal, the date on the box was 1991. Well anyways, I opened a few to see what they looked liked and they looked way better than the frams of today. The construction was better, the filter was heavier, and even the paper seemed to be sturdier. One that I looked at was oiled and there was a rather large collection of oil in the wrapper.

I was just surprised to see a 15 year old filter on the shelves that were better quality than a brand new one.

Though Ive herd a lot of bad about fram, I use their toughguard air filters and have not had a problem. But Im still considering using a pureone from now on once my toughgurard stash is gone.

cool! see you can get vintage stuff at Walmart. Back in the day I ran a 91 Ford Escort almost 200k miles on the Fram orange filters and Kendall conventional oil. I had no idea what I was doing.

I'm gonna put on my Nomex flame suit....

but Fram makes pretty decent air filters. They are NOT as bad as alot of people say they are.

I recently bought a Fram for my mom's 01 Civic LX at PepBoys. I compaired it side by side to a Purolator air filter for the same 01' Civic. The Fram had 15 more pleats, was better constructed and costs less.

I don't see many people flaming Fram's air filters, but for me, I'll stick with Wix or Purolator. They have a little better quality in my application and the price is nearly the same.

Once you stop shopping at Wal-mart you'll find it's even easier to justify not buying Fram. I as well went to Wal-mart almost excusively for my filters and oil, but now I've found there are so many deals elsewhere, it's not even cheaper. Plus I can pick up other maintenance items at the parts store like transmission filters, ect.
