Fram Ultra VS Amsoil Ea

What are your guys thoughts between these two?

Ive ran the fram before on my silverado, but i have not ran the Ea yet.

I have a case of SS for the silverado already and im going to be ordering some other Amsoil products for friends on my account. I thought about just going ahead and including the Ea for my truck in the order.

The Ea cost a few dollars more than the Ultra does at walmart, but i wouldn't have to go to walmart to get one.

Will some of you filter gurus give me your opinion on the two? I know both are excellent, and that the amsoil is 98.7% efficient. what is the Frams rating?
 
Two very similar filters. Both are excellent. The Amsoil uses a single thick layer of synthetic media to achieve the 98.7% efficiency rating at 20 microns The Fram Ultra uses two layers of a thinner media and achieves a 99%+ efficiency rating at 20 microns. The Ultra is slightly more efficient but I wouldn't let that sway me. I'd just go with whatever is cheaper and easier to get. I wouldn't go out of my way to go one or the other.
 
Fram makes certain oil filters for Amsoil. Its mostly a case by case basis. For example, for the 5.9/6.7 Cummins engine, the Amsoil EA080 is a rebadged Donaldson ELF 7349 (recently updated to DBL7349).

Personally, I would just do some research and find a good quality filter and use it. Youll likely be able to buy it locally, and will be as good as a rebadged Amsoil filter.

Seems to demonstrate that the AMSOIL filter (and all others employing the Donaldson media) are in fact dual layer media. Heck, you should remember, you posted in the thread

Memphis I agree that they are very close and they would both perform very well but please..... Let's keep the info consistent

I have used both on my accord and I have cut open both of them.

Fram ultra looked like a single thick media or 3 very tiny layers that were able to be separated after getting wet with oil plus wire backing. LINK HERE

Amsoil here I like the frams metal crimp on seam vs amsoil. Amsoil media is clearly 2 layers. first is fine layer then less fine layer then wire backing, amsoil has 31.5 inches of media vs frams 36 inches

I'd say try the amsoil and see which one you like better, make sure you cut it open for us when you are done

Well, I used to think they were a viable option until the very first one I checked out at K-Mart had a screwy ADBV and had paint over spray all over the mounting plate.
 
OP is running Synpower and an Extra Guard.. Then asking about the difference between 2 similar top tiered filters.

Regardless of what it is, get the cheapest/ convenient. Your truck won't care unless it's picky with filters.

I picked up the death canister because it was available at orscheln the same time the oil was on sale, previous filter was an ultra.

Agreed. Most likely Fram Ultra is cheaper and easier to get. I have several Ultra's for S2000 and Accord I paid around $6-7/ea from Pep Boys. It's hard to get better filtration than Ultra at less than $6.

Nothing wrong with it at all. I have used entry level filters and synthetic many times. Just goes to show any filter will do. What interval are you running this at any ways?
 
Synpower with any filter at 8k for the last couple OCI's

The next fill will be AMSOIL Signature Series and a top tier filter for 12-15k

I was getting opinions as I will be making another AMSOIL order this weekend and could include a filter for the truck. My other option is to drive to Walmart and pick up an ultra.

I noticed you're a Hoosier as well, what part of the state are you from?
