Does anyone have any data on how well the Fram Ultra flows? I seem to remember someone testing filters and measuring differential pressures but I can't find it.

I like filters will good flow and I am just wondering how the Ultra compares to Toyota OEM and Wix filters.

Is there a certain part # you're looking for the data on ?

I emailed Motorking a year ago asking about the XG3593A.
It flows 10gpm@30psi.

There are no worries with flow when it comes to FRAM Ultra oil filters. Member Motorking (Jay) with FRAM can confirm that. FRAM Ultra filters have synthetic media which oil can flow through better than cellulose filters. Member ZeeOSix has discussed this on here as well.

That seems a pretty high delta-p. Depends on what the oil viscosity was during the test, and which sized filter was tested.

Thanks for the info guys.

I have been using mostly Toyota OEM and Denso filters since they have a reputation for good flow. Their particle efficiency has not been documented to the best of my knowledge, other than the famous chart from Amsoil.

If the Ultra has just as good flow, but better particle efficency, I see no reason not to use the Ultra instead. My case of Toyota filters is almost gone, so I am just wondering if there are better alternatives.

XG3614 and XG7317 filters fit my applications.

Here is one filter Motorking mentioned, you'd have to email him your specific model if you want more information.

For 30w Oil at 180 deg F

XG10060
Flow (Psid)
3 1.7
6 3
8 4.1
9.7 5.2

Hope this helps and let me know if you have further questions.

And here's the linked quote thread

Any proof of this? Not arguing, just curious why. I saw a post on here basically outlining that the XG2 and motorcraft FL800s flow roughly the same.

The filter flows fine by those numbers, also need to understand what happens to flow after the filter, when the oil goes through bearings with small clearances. Small engines shouldn't require a lot of flow because the way they are made and operated. No one knows if the Toyota filter flows well or not, wonder why people believe this. Just because someone says they flow well? Seems to be a common habit to believe what is said as a proof these days. That was the thread where it was said the Ultra needs metal end caps. Then when their cartridge filters with non metal show problems, this is forgotten.

When I prime an oil filter by pouring oil into the center, the level goes down much quicker as it flows to the outside of the filter media when using Toyota/Denso filters.

I know this is a very unscientific test, but when I prime other brands of filters, I have to wait much longer for the oil to go through the media when filling it up.

Have you done it with a synthetic media filters like the FU?

No. All the vehicles I currently own have sideways mounted filters.
