I know this stuff is made by Conoco, but is it the same as Motorcraft full synthetic or Kendal Synthetic? Reason I ask is my local autozone has it on clearance and is selling it for $2.39 a quart and I'm thinking about picking up as much of it as i can.

There is very little information on this oIl. No body uses it. It probadly good stuff. The name Fram has been bashed around for years. If they would have called this oil anything other than Fram, we would have all read threads about this new oil somebody loves. I herd it is being discontinued. Good luck, and for that price, buy a truck load.

Just because its made by Conoco does not mean much. Could be made to Fram's spec? How do you know its the same as Motorcraft full synthetic? Fram is a big enough company to be able to spec an oil to their price point. And so is Motorcraft. The basestock may be the same, but its the additives that are the icing on the cake.

I think I'm going to buy a bunch of this stuff on my lunch break if they still have it. Conoco's oils (MC, Trop Artic, Kendal, etc.) don't seem to differ that much with their add packs, so I feel fairly confident running this stuff. Besides, everyone here seems to feel that if its an SN oil, you pretty much can't go wrong with anything out there. Once I use that stuff up, I'm either going with PYB or Nextgen, unless I really like the way my scion runs on this stuff, then I may stick to MC since thats the easiest conoco product for me to find around here at a fair price.

Speaking of additives PYB has a better add pack than many synthetics, with SN oils I mean.

While they may be big enough to spec their own oil as you said the odds are that they didn't. Recently a company I am familiar with was looking to produce a finished oil in their own brand. They found they could buy repackaged Mobil 1 cheaper than they could pay a blender to make their own. They also found several other suppliers that met their criteria at a decent price. More often than not a private label product doesn't change much on the manufacturing side.

well, I was hoping to get enough to cover 2 oil changes, but they didn't have enough, so I got 5qts of the Fram synthetic and 5 qts of Nextgen on sale for $2.99 a quart. The fram stuff must have been sitting around for a while. Upon closer inspection, the bottles were dusty and it is actually the SM formulation which I think should still work fine. All in all, I spent $28 on oil for two oil changes and got a mail in rebate for the nextgen good for a $20 gift card, so hopefully my third oil change will only cost me a couple bucks:)

Yeah, I know, but I've been using nothing but SN oils for a while now and havn't seen any SM oils in my area for quite sometime now, I guess it just seemed old to me
