Are protec ok? Puralator? Wix?

Puralator, Wix, ST, Mobil 1 are all good filters...

There is an oil Filter section that may help you more.

A good place to start is by using the search feature in the correct forum (Oil Filters)

I've used the orange filter for 40 years and never had a problem. I've heard of other folks stating that your motor will basically melt down if ya use them.

I've used them too with no problems. Actually the XG is a very good filter, but many BITOGERS feel its too pricey.

Fram's are fine. It is just that some people mistakenly think they are buying the best when they buy Fram.

For a few weeks a year, they park hot rods downtown. It is just so funny to see these beautiful cars, with everything polished and chromed up with a nice bright Orange Fram filter in the engine bay.

Wix, Purolator, Napa, super tech, mobil 1, bosch, pro line, ect ect. There are tons of filters out there. Welcome to the world without orange tinted glasses.

Actually, probably as much as anyone else here. You're just open about it. I'd take it all with a grain of salt.....especially from the True Believers.

Will your car explode if you use Fram? No. Will the world come to an end? Maybe....

I HATE FRAM i do like there grip design why don't more filter makers incorperate that design

When I was young, naive, and uninformed, I used to use Fram

The black grip coating is not very heat resistant, and burns off (actually gets flaky) under less-than-extreme use. The can seemed thin to me, so maybe they put it on the discourage use of a filter wrench to tighten it down? I know when I removed one, the can was always dented, and I may have put a dent in one or two trying to tighten it the required 3/4 turn.

When I was a kid working at a Gulf station (they pulled out of 9 western states in 1974), they stocked Fram, but changed to Purolator around '73. I always thought Fram was a good brand (maybe it WAS back then), and Gulf did it as a cost-cutting measure. Guess it was a quality issue instead.....

Speaking of Fram, the Chevys of that era used a PH25 or a PH30, one of which (think the PH30), had the large-diameter gasket that ran around the outside edge of the filter base. These filters absolutely HAD to be tightened with a filter wrench. I had one come back pouring oil out, the boss then told me about the exception to the "install hand tight" rule......

Frams won't hurt a thing. I'd use one in a pinch. I simply feel that I get more for my money with brands like Wix, Purolator, Motorcraft, Mobil 1, & the occasional OEM filter.

There are hundreds of Cummins Turbo Diesels that died an early death thanks to Fram filters...those filter would come apart (neoprene construction) and plug all the oil ports in the engine causing it to starve of oil...

Fram is NOT on the dodge list of approved filters for the CTD...A $7000 engine destroyed by a filter that cost under $7.

I use Wix filters on my cars and Mopar (which are rebadged Fleetguard) or actual Fleetguard filters on my truck.

I have run a 5.7L 1997 GM 4x4 up to 138K miles on primarily FRAMs. I liked 2:1 deals.

It has 5 qt capacity, uses 5-10W30 dino in 3K OCI. Filter is the size of a soup can (dinky).

Consumes Zero oil in 3K miles, and 2/3 qt in 6K miles when I did 3 runs of Syntec.
