I was at Walmart tonight getting my 2 jugs of QAD for the $20 rebate program when I noticed they carry Fram Motorcycle filters. I looked up my Triumph and sure enough they had them. This filter is black and has a very heavy case and looking inside it is all metal with the metal tube down the center. The drain back valve is also black and not orange. Since I change my oil once a year in my bikes and only ride 3-4000 miles this filter will never go past 4000 miles. So I am going to try one.

Has anyone had any experience with Fram MC filters? BTW it as $6.47 which is 1/2 of the $15 the dealer charges for the factory filter.

I use their cartridge filter in my Honda CBX because they're sold at a store within a mile of my house. I've visually compared them to the OEM Honda filter and they're compatible.

My newest bike is a Kawasaki ZX-14R. The oil filter on this bike is a spin-on. The filter media is not pleated paper but rather looks like a formed block of scotch-brite pad. I can buy the OEM filter for $8.32 from Ron Ayers so I do that.

I think the Fram bike filter would be fine for the Triumph. You can buy two for the price of one dealer supplied filter so at the very least give them a try this summer.

I believe the one I bought is the same filter. Thank you very much for the link to the pics. I have used Fram filters for 4 decades and never had even one leak or fail. Now I will use this with confidence as well. The bypass is 13psi which is pretty low so I am not worried about any oil starvation. I'll be running 10w50 castrol anyway so it should be fine.

Just like my cars, I put the largest oil filter that will fit(with the proper bypass) on my bikes. On my Honda 1100 I run a Baldwin B161-S(3 1/32" X 4 1/16") and on my Valk I run a Baldwin B199(3" X 5 1/8"). I put about 8k miles on both bikes so I use one filter a year on each.
