I was in Walmart yesterday and picked up some Mobil 1 and then went looking for an oil filter for my 2009 CTS V-6. It is a cartridge filter and when I checked the shelf guide manual it listed only one filter [cartridge] in the book for this model. It was under the Fram "Extra Guard" column. The shelf had a section for Fram "extra guard" filters but the number listed for the CTS filter was not in that group but down below in a regular Fram box. It was the only filter offered so I bought it but wonder why the name[extra guard] discrepancy?
I know the "orange" box warnings but in this case, at least in Walmart there is no other choice.

It is a fairly low-volume filter, so it is likely that the part is a reboxed OE part. It would not make sense for Fram to setup a production line (and spend the money on R&D) for such a low-volume part.

My friend's 2007 GTI takes a Fram CH9911 filter. It was $12.99 from O'Reilly's and came in a plain orange box. The filter appeared to be a reboxed Mann or some german filter.

I don't question that it will work just wondering why Fram did not put it in an "extra guard" box since that was how it is listed in the filter directory.
