in/on: 8 quarts HPL PCEO 5w-40 with Carquest Extended Protection P84502

this one looks good, and leaf spring was very flat.

Where did the gunk on the underside (clean side) of the bypass valve and leaf spring come from? Did it get contaminated when you were disassembling the filter, or would it have been there beforehand?

I'm just thinking that the filter could have been clogged and bypassing. This is a gasoline engine, right? The media looks pretty dark. I'd be interested to see what it would look like if you were to wick all of the oil out of the filter media.
 
Hard to read the date code, but looks like the 22nd day of 2023. Older than the other Endurance you just cut open. No wonder the leaf spring is smooth.

i cut all of the filters and put them all in a very dirty catch basin to drain before i took photos. not saying, i believe the stuff we see in the photos came from there. these trucks all should have pretty clean internals. they’ve all been on multiple 12k HPL intervals at this point. this truck specifically is on interval #3
