filter looks okay and leaf spring has the looks of ruffles but i couldn’t catch any with my fingernail.

Maybe ... or they have multiple stamping machines and some are setup better than others. If Fram and Champ Labs, etc were reading these forums, they would know what to look at for ways to improve their product.
