My local AAP has 80w140 oil for $2, is it worth buying it for 5th gen 4runner when the manual requires 75w85?

I'd be more concerned with the viscosity variance than the cost savings. 5th gen ran for 14 years from 2010 to 2024 according to AI. Regardless how old your unit is, are you towing the Space Shuttle over Independence Pass? If not pay a few more shekels for a more suitable match to the factory spec.

In that case, going from a 75W to an 80W is not an issue. I'd say go for it unless you're concerned about fuel economy.
