is there an easy way to do this without transferring it to another bottle? what a pain!

i've been using redline for several years and am tired of dealing with this now that i'm using it on multiple vehicles.

i have an easier time being precise with "normal" oil bottles, even if it doesn't have a level "window", as you can put your finger on the bottle and note the position when looking inside. redline has such a strange bottle shape, you can't do that so if your car or truck takes X.5 quarts or x.25 quarts, you have to pour and check pour and check with Redline, instead of getting it approximate, checking, and usually being on point such as when i use oils in "normal" bottles.

Just save a "useful" oil bottle and transfer it into that, that's about all you can do as mentioned.

Their bottles are probably the worst; another gripe is that the pour hole is TOO SMALL. I don't have 20 minutes/qt in the winter to pour the oil in.

You should email them your concerns. Otherwise they would not know. They are odd bottles that are white. Had a hard time pouring their gear oil out too without making a mess. Had to transfer to Mobil 1 gear oil bottle and use the tip to fill a tube going into the differential.

Hold a light behind the bottle and you can see the level inside. You don't have to get the exact number of ounces out of the bottle, it's not the Space Shuttle your topping up.

haha, i agree. it does take quite a while, especially when you are doing an engine with a large capacity.

re: measuring, someone on another forum mentioned they use cheapo paint measuring cups from HD/Lowes. either way, it looks like i'd have to have something separate to do it consistently.

oh, thanks.

...thanks for that report, Canada.

I sent david email about reading a level on the bottles.

This is what he said,

Without a clear panel on the bottle an indication on the side of the bottle wouldn’t likely be very usable. Adding ½ quart can be reasonably closely achieved by looking at the level remaining, verifying should be done with the dip stick as the final accurate determination of level.

I think David don't care about us.

haha, what a useless answer from him.

to expand on what the canadian interjected, the bottle is opaque, so shining light through the bottle is not possible when viewing from the outisde. you can view the level inside the bottle, but when its level (the bottle), you can't even tell the oil level until you are past 1/2 a quart gone due to the long neck and graduation toward the neck which obstructs view. i assume you don't use redline oil from your response.

i like redline oil, it seems like good stuff and i have a good connection for it, but it seems so silly to go against the grain of other oil manufacturers and make the bottle good at literally one thing - holding oil. the seal system sucks - it can take sometimes a minute or so to pick up the "safe seal" flap, and then when you pull it, you run the risk of dropping foil or other seal parts into the oil. also, the small neck sucks, the level view is non-existent...what a strange bottle choice for oil. make life easier, not harder.

oh well.

thanks all!

+1!!

I use a spent Motorcraft oil bottle that I transfer the Red Line oil to for pouring fractional amounts into my motor. If you purchase the gallon jugs, you can pour 4 quarts into the motor pretty effectively.

Oh, sorry. Peal the label back, and hold a trouble light behind the bottle, you can see the level clear as day...

Interesting, I have never had the problem you did when pouring their oils in the winter.

What did your email say to him? You gave us his answer but what was the question that was asked.

Proof?

Just change transmission fluid yesterday with Redline. Didn't take long at all to pour, granted it was MTL so not real thick, but it was only 45-50F outside.

Too many to list in this forum.

I still don't see proof that Motul makes the best oils. That's a pretty big statement to make on this site.
