Howdy folks. Got a question in regards to these two products. I currently put a bottle of Techron in my cars ('00 Civic EX & '03 Saab 9-5 Aero) every 5k. I did the same in my old '92 Saturn and it never developed any kind of fuel system problem in it's 185k miles. The Civic's got close to 100k and the Saab's got almost 20k and everything is running smooth.

Needless to say I like Techron and plan to continue using it.

I read all these threads about FP and am curious, what benefits would it provide that I may not already be getting with Techron?

If you feel Techron is working for you, stick with it. With FP I got increased gas mileage so there's a great additional advantage.

Before I found this website I used to run techron every 15k miles to clean things up, but I never noticed much in the form of an improvement of my idle, drivability, milage, etc.. I also never had an injecter problem so I gues it did its job.

Presently I have been running FP for the last 9 or 10 tanks and have not had an increase in milage but my car feels smoother and throttle response is quicker and my idle is quieter. FYI I have a 00' 1.8t VW passat.

The way my math works out, you're money ahead using FP compared to techron. Assuming you have a vehicle with a 15 gal tank that gets 30 mpg. Let's also assume you follow the recommended treatment rates of 1 oz/gal with Techron every 3k miles and 1 oz/5 gal every tank with FP. Over 3k miles, you'd use 100 gallons. At the recommended rate, you'd use 15 oz. of Techron at ~.50/oz (20 oz. bottle @ $10). That would come to $7.50. You'd use 20 oz of FP at ~.26/oz (128 oz bottle @ $33.50 w/shipping). That would come to $5.23.

Realistically, most people would buy a whole bottle of Techron and dump it in. The 12 oz. bottle costs $7, the 20 oz. costs $10. Either way, you save with FP, it's just a matter of how much.

BTW, I've not used it yet, but will be ordering as soon as my October play money becomes available.

Yeah, for the same price as 3 bottles of techron you get enough FP to treat over 600 gallons of gas. =)

Which do you think cleans better? 300 miles of cleaning every 5000 miles? Or 18,000 miles of cleaning in a row? That's assuming you're getting about 30 mpg.
