head gasket of the #1 cylinder on a 3 door . It's the exact same leak as our 2010 3 door and the 2008 sedan that was repalced . The car belongs to a friend .

Hmmm... This would appear to be a surprisingly common problem. I wonder if toyota doesn't know about it, or if they know and aren't doing anything about it. Though after what happened earlier this year, if they were I suppose I can't really blame them for not wanting to recall MORE cars. Oh wait, yes I can. Maybe you should make an attempt to bring this up to the Toyota corporate HQ, and see if you can get an investigation started. It's a long shot, but you never know.

His 2010 YARIS was bought new in OCTOBER of '09 . Got it because of how we would tell him of our mileage ,etc. Unfortunately this was before I discovered the oil leaks of our 2008 and 2010 . The car has 48,000 plus miles , he drives it over 1,000 miles a week for his business . I recleaned it and will go back again in a week or so to recheck it .

I've been hounding the TOYOTA costumer experience center to have TOYOTA let us know what they may have discovered with head gasket that was removed from the 2008 . No results as of yet . Doubt we will ever get an answer . Wouldn't surprize us if TOYOTA is aware of this issue and hasn't gone public .

Have gone straight to the QUALITY CONTROL of TOYOTA of the U.S. and not much success as of yet . Have sent E-mails and a letter . It's like pulling teeth from a white shark .

Its not his he is talking about.

He has one in his current Yaris that is leaking. His other one did have the leak. He has a "friend" who has one that leaks.

Between these a photo would be nice to see since he is making a statement that this seems to be a COMMON issue with this model.

I'd like to see what the leak looks like.

Have photos of the leaks for both our cars . They're at YARISWORLD . I have no reason to lie . As for his leak , it hasn't had a long enough period of time to build up , it's a slow leak , not gushing . I'm not going to travel 18 miles to get pics of his when I already know what and where it is . He has no ramps to put the car on so I crawl underneath and get photos . Want to see photos go to YARISWORLD and look under D.I.Y. and GENERAL DISCUSSION . Have to trust us .

And as far as lie.. Someone who is interested in this can not see what you are talking about?

The leak is very well hidden . Took me some time to locate it . It comes from part of the head gasket that's exposed and is in a part of the block that goes back in , like that of a cave . Ugh .

. This site seems difficult to post photos . Don't like giving info online , whch PHOTOBUCKET needs . Tell us of another way to post them here and I'll do so . We're not that great with the computer .

Sometimes its not a conspiracy, and a coincidence is just that. As these cars are all presumably still under warranty, I would expect the issue to be corrected accordingly. That's kind of the point of a warranty.

Also if Recalls were done for everything, service departments from every automaker would be so backlogged they'd be pointless. This is why there is a warranty and why the OEM makes use of TSBs.

Recalls are generally reserved for issues that are product safety related. A leaking head gasket doesn't meet that criteria. If it is a common problem, there should be a TSB on it. In either case, it would still be covered by warranty.

This seems to be much ado about nothing.

Edit: I know its en vogue these days to slam Toyota (on the import side, GM on the domestic side), but this is reaching.

Send me a PM with the link and I'll get the photos here for you!

Deal?

I agree that just because a bunch of people on a car specific forum have similar problem, doesn't make it a common problem as far as general public is concerned.

If you visit Mazda 3 forums, you would think that Mazda's engines fail left and right. But if you scratch the surface, most of the cases were user error in not checking oil level between oil changes and just running low on oil or over tightening the plastic oil filter cartridge.
So while I don’t doubt OP that there is a problem, but I don’t think it is as common as internet forums make it out to be.

I AGREE! The majority of owners don't post that their vehicle is performing like it should on the Internet. Then when we have people post their "issues" with a vehicle the bashers come out with the talking points.

Really messes up with getting info out.

Here's the pics from YARISWORLD . www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28321 , www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28414 , and www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31238 . There are a few other threads related to this topic , will post those when found . Not sure if you need to be a member to look at the site . We're only trying to make others aware of this . It's not easy to find the leak . Did send several e-mails to QUALITY CONTROL with pics attached . Waiting to hear back . We were considering a 2011 YARIS , but with this issue we'll have to pass .
