Did my first ever fluid level check on the Previa. In the past, I've never checked the oil level in between services (there's an oil reservoir on the van that will not allow the crankcase to drop more than 1 qt low), nor the transmission fluid as I assumed that it was OK following the major service.
Anyway, upon checking the ATF condition, I discovered the ATF to be of a purple-brown color. No burned odor...smells just like normal motor oil.
Van is a 1992 Toyota Previa w/ 64,500 original miles of nearly all highway driving. Factory fill is Dexron II, and a pan drain removes 2.5 qt (out of 6). It has a conventional pan with the typical (older) Toyota setup of a screen filter. Only one ATF drain and refill was done @ 45k miles with Chevron Dexron III(H).
I have a gallon or so of SuperTech Dexron III(H) lying around. I think I'm going to drain and refill the pan for the next three oil changes before switching to a semi-annual/15k service interval.
