Formula Shell in an 05 Tacoma

all weights of formula shell are on sale at aid auto for 1.50 per quart right now. Applications would be 5w30 for an 05 tacoma with 4.0 liter v6 and 5w20 for an 07 compass with the 2.4. Both using napa gold filters and 5000 oci's.

I plan on keeping both of these vehicles for a LONG time. Whats everyones thoughts of this oil vs. the gold standards in dino, such as pennzoil?

It should be as good as any API SM conventional oil.

The Formula Shell additive pack appears to be similar to that of Quakerstate. I've used it before and was very happy with it. I see no reason you should not be able to use it with confidence.

Having said that, be sure and check the bottles for "SM" on the donut, to make sure it is somewhat new stock. There seemed to be a lot of the "SL" floating around at one time, long after SM was released.

If you keep your eyes peeled, there are occasionally sales in which you can pick up Formula Shell for $.49 per quart. I got a case of 5w30 a few weeks ago from Checker Auto at that price. Of course, you've gotta send in for a rebate. . . .

Walgreens has it right now at a buck a quart after rebate, 90 cents if you put the rebate on a gift card.
