I saw an Afton document recently that said it takes $2.2 million to run all the tests for dexos1 with SN/GF-5. I guess thats jukebox money to SOPUS though.

As it stands, the differences between QSGB, PYB, and Formula Shell conventional on a typical VOA are within the margin of error and batch variations. Nonetheless, there are people who will use Pennzoil but won't touch Quaker State, vice versa, and every other combination you can imagine.

You wouldnt believe how many folks I know that will use PNZL but not QS because of Jeff Gordon's image on the bottle.

Heck, I'm no NASCAR fan, but I couldn't care less about that.

Just kidding

I won't disregard an oil for having something I don't care for, like the Duck Dynasty Peak bottles. Can't stand the show (flame suit on!) but I used the oil anyways.

Dale Jr, Jimmy Johnson, Jeff Gordon - all things Hendrick (including their dealerships) - now use Valvoline.

Mine was used a while (year) ago and was SM rated and I think was blended in 2010...

One word: marketing.

The marketing (separate brand names) can stay, just the formulations be the same, one spec certification event.

i saw it for 4.99 a quart at a shell gas station
a speedy's auto service also charges 30 for formula shell synthetic, is that a good deal? they can inspect your car while they're at it, so i'm thinking of doing that for my next oil change, then chainging it myself afterwards with mobil 1, etc
