Formula Shell any good?

The Walgreens add has me tempted to purchase some Shell Formula at 4/$5.

Problem is; I've never used the stuff and don't have a clue if it's any good or not?

I currently use Motorcraft 5W-20 in my Taurus and Mobil Clean 5000 5W-30 in my truck.

Thought about using the Shell for Lawn Mower oil.

Any thoughts?

As long as its an SL or SM oil it will be fine. I plan on running Shell 5W20 API-SM my next OC in my Aerostar.

Using it right now in the Saturn.

It should be as good as any name brand API SM conventional oil.

The Formula Shell is SOPUS's basic product.
It will do exactly what oil is supposed to do, no frills, no advertizing.
Its a great value for the $$$.

I've used it in my Aerostar for the last few oil changes. Appears to do the job, especially for the price that Menards occasionally puts in on sale for.

Sort of like Quaker State from what I remember, use it, it works fine. One guy in the Bypass filter section ran this stuff a long time with great results.

I don't have any reason to question it. Only a handful of other board members seems to have his level of experience.

Can't be that bad, at the very least I would use it to flush out the old oil. Which is exactly what I'm gonna do if I can find some on sale. I was just in walgreens friday and it was about $3.50.

Formula Shell is made by Pennzoil, it must be good. They can't put a name like Shell on it, and not be any good. I use Canadian Formula Shell made by Shell Canada, and it's really good.

Yeah I just looked at the ad, thats not too bad of a price. The cheapest I can find anywhere else is $2.50 for ST. I just might have to take their deal.

It is the other way around. Pennzoil is made by Shell.

This stuff is dino oil. If we rate good/better/best then group 3 is the best dino oil, and since it's not group 3 it's not the best dino oil. Shell makes about 4 ranges of oil and Formula is the low end, so it's probably just good. I got quite a few qts. of this and for the price its real good to me. SL/SM rated stuff is fine for most people , maybe stick to SL for small engines and SM for cars.

Not sure if it is any good but I am using it in my 2.5l non-turbo subaru. Still looks clean after a few months of use. I put it in because it was the cheapest I could find at Target.

I have used it. I have a UOA on it posted if you want to look it up. It is great oil as long as you don't try to run at a SYN type interval. If your only going out to 5k changes you will be well protected with it.
