FORD TRANSMISSION LUBRICANT

I´m looking for a commercial equivalent of Ford spec. ESD M2C 186A.

Í need to fill my Mondeo 5spd manual transmission, and all I ger from the owners manual is taht spec. For what I see, it´s ATF, but I´m not sure which one.

Could anybody tell me a commercial product (Shell has wide presence down here).

If it was built before early 2000, it has Mercon fluid in it now. Mobil 1 ATF (which meets Mercon spec) works wonderfully. It will work a bit better with 2 oz of Ford friction modifier added.

A good low cost alternative is Chrysler ATF+3 or ATF+4. It already has a higher level of friction modifier. Shift quality will be greatly improved.

I have an American Mondeo, a Ford Contour SVT. It shifts wonderfully with ATF+3

Friction modifier for a manual transmission?
FM's are usually for the clutch plates in a LSD, and are not good for shiftability in a transmission.

I'd stick with regular Dexron/MerconIII, whatever brand yo ucan find, synthetic would be better...

A good balance of friction modifier is essential on a manual trans to aid the synchros. I agree that it is better to leave the blending up to the oil chemists, but I know that it works on this transmission.

The 1995 and 1996 Ford service manual specifies using Mercon WITH ADDITIONAL FORD FRICTION MODIFIER. From what I remember, though, they recommend 1.75 oz per fill for a total of 2.7 quarts of fluid.

I´ll go with a synthetic Dexron III/Mercon lubricant.

I never thought that AT and MT fluids would be the same.

Finally replaced the transmission oil with Shell Donax TX DIII/Mercon sinthetic ATF.

Cold engine 1st and 2nd gear shifting instantly became softer. I´m more confident now, as I´m preparing a long trip to our local Oktoberfest.
