My sister said her a/c was acting up all day today by cutting off and on..Code 888 came up on the automatic temperature display..The car is the 07 Grand Marquis.
You have to make the control hesd enter a self test, it wont display codes on its own, it is likely failing and is a common and expensive problem. I think the last one i put in was $700 for the control head.

She said the code came up as she was adjusting the temperature trying to get the system working again..I believe she has a extended warranty for the a/c..Hopefully she does.
The only thing that fails is the control head or the blend door actuator but it makes the temperature stick at hot or cold, most of the time it sticks on hot
She took the car to Ford and it turned out to be the alternator..It was putting out erratic voltage..The strange thing is it only affected the a/c and nothing else..No check engine light ever came on..Nothing..I never would have guessed the alternator..It was covered under the warranty which is getting ready to expire next month..They also said the battery was not up to speed [original one] so they told her she should get a new one..They put in a Motorcraft.
