Ford Fusion 3.0L V6 bad years?

I think you're thinking of the 3.5L that has the bad water pump design, every cyclone based transverse mount engine suffers from the bad water pump design that includes the V6 ecoboost engines. The longitudinal mount engines use a different water pump design that isn't subject to the same failure.

This sure looks like a transverse engine to me. It’s a 2006 Fusion and it’s listed as having a 3.0L .

You want to avoid the 3.5/3.7 Ford Duratec 35/Cyclone 🌀V6
As seen in MKZ/Fusion Sport
All other V6 Fusion/Milan/Zephyr/MKZs were a 3.0 Duratec 30, with the fairly easy external belt driven water pump

Some Duratec 3.0s had issues with cam cap bolts backing out, and the timing cover can weep oil, dictating a reseal
But in terms of long term maintenance and repairability, it's the V6 of choice in CD3 platform vehicles

Anecdotally, I wound up with two I4 models 🤷‍♂️
Why you keep buying the same vehicles I have 👀

Maybe, but I haven’t bought it yet. The particular car I’m looking at might be beyond my skill level. It’s one of those “hopefully we can sell it instead of taking it to auction” cars.

Carfax okay. A/C okay. Needs brakes and tires. Airbag light on. Radio screen cracked. Rockers rusted. Fenders bent. Driver quarter panel damaged. Scratches, chips, and dings throughout. Very few miles relative to age! Runs and drives okay.
AS-TRADED $2400 OUT THE DOOR!!!

$1000 too high IMO

Might be worth it, you'd need to see it in person to assess how bad that rust is. It has some odd damage and signs of abuse/neglect like missing lugnuts or broken wheel studs and that cracked radio display.

Passenger rear looks like someone tried to fix some of the rust? suspiciously bubbly but paint is still there? methinks it was touched up already.

Needs brakes, doubt it needs a MC. My guess, makes noises or warped rotors, maybe a dragging brake. Pads and rotors, caliper if dragging, and nothing else is my uneducated guess.

Problem is, the rust. IIRC no inspection in KY? Logistically, if you bought this, how many years would you have to drive, before you could feel ok in giving away? 1 year? 2? Would you be ok with doing brakes and a couple minor repairs, wait until the big one hits, then dump and move onto the next car?

$2,400 sounds high to me but I still think in terms of pre-pandemic pricing.

I’m thinking of it as a donation to a relative who’s a bit down on their luck and is probably going to need a car soon, so if it lasted 20k that might be long enough.

Walk away on this one. They’re likely going to stick to that price or really close to it.

Too much to fix to make it acceptable. If it were a $900 car on offer, maybe, and that’s if you like a project And it’s 17 years old.

Crumpled rear quarters, rusted rockers and many dents and dings indicate to me as a buyer that despite the “low miles for age” that the prior owners didn’t care and drove it until they got sick of it. Cracked radio screen? They not only didn’t care, they abused it.

Even the selling dealer doesn’t care, given their statement of it won’t be fixed. Let them sell it to someone else. There are better examples out there.

In the photos it looks good from far but its far from good as the saying goes.
Not worth the headache
