So I have a 2014 f150 5.0 4x4 great truck other than service from the dealer around 16k miles I found a small leak in the front diff where it connects to the passenger side drive shaft soo I take it in and get it fixed under warranty supposedly got a couple new seals and bearings and 3 quarts of 75w90...... well flash forward 10k miles and in the spirit of preventive maintenance I pulled my diff plugs to check the levels and magnets well the rear was fine but when I get to the front I get this

Looks kinda wrong to me not including its over full so I call up ford and ask if maybe they added something in there I didn't know about and told them what I found they have me bring it in and look at it cuz they are skeptical as well.... well their mechanic comes back and tells me it's perfectly normal when different fluids are mixed well at this point I start asking questions like
Why did you have a need to mix fluids if you used 3 quarts like it said on my warranty receipt and why wasn't I made aware that you aren't doing your job and how did you replace any bearings if you didn't ever pulled the front cover... ect so after I get done getting [censored] answers he tells me it will be perfectly fine leaving the milky green fluid in there I politely tell them to suck it so on the way home I picked up all the supplies to change the fluid myself when I pull the cover puss color fluid drains out and there are globs of what looks like lithium grease in the bottom anyone else believe their story or am I crazy? Seems like [censored] to me well anyways 100$ later both diff are full with grape juice now and I definitely feel alot better than what they had done

My 2010 had honey colored FF oil in it. I changed it at 13,300 so this color is normal from the factory. The rear axle had a dark gray oil in it.

I'm wondering how the whitish hue comes about if it's color is normal , care to elaborate PSD2015?

I'm with you Robo, I wouldn't trust the mechanic's comments in his response.
Glad that you had removed the 'abnormal' grease like oils.
Does it indicate gear oil oxidation here ?

The explanation that I had given to me is the FF contains break-in additives which are not in OTC MC gear oil, thus the colors are different. My UOA on the FF showed no abnormalities save for the wear metals from break-in.

Thanks for clearing my doubts, mate.

Even if that is part of factory fill ford and I both still got screwed I was told that they had to change out several seals and some bearings (inside the diff) which would require pulling the cover and draining the ff then adding new fluid which obviously didn't happen so ford paid for way more than what I received

I agree that something did not happen as it should have although they stated that it did, but I just wanted to put your fears to rest about the color of the oil. When you dumped the oil, it should have been the "normal" color of gear oil if they changed it, but it seems they saved the FF and just re-installed it after the work (or something else). You did the right thing in dumping it and changing it out.

I definitely feel alot better afterwards was going to get amsoil but napa has a sale on rp here something like 5$ off per bottle

I'm pretty sure there isn't anything left I used about 4 cans of brake cleaner per diff and moved the truck forward so I could get to everything clean when I was done there was just clear brake clean which I had to dry up with a rag
