I rented a 2023 Ford Escape FWD with 1.5T in Puerto Rico.

It managed 26 MPG in island stop and go driving. It’s noisy and motor starts up noisy and quiets quickly.

Pros:
Ice Cold AC
Room for 5
Hold 3 large suitcase with ease
Decent pep
Reasonably comfortable
Decent transmission

Cons:
Screams cheap with plastic interior including trim and steering wheel
Start/stop execution is really poor and abrupt
Noisy on highway
Stupid location for starter button on angle with odd reach (wife said that’s an American car)
Max AC fan design American my wife said, incredibly noisy difficult to carry conversation

Not sure why you’d buy to be a new an overgrown Ford Escort given competition out there.

I hardly see any of this generation Escape on the road around here. The 3rd generation was selling about 2x as many.

Yeah, 1st gen and 2nd gen were super solid. Both my 2008 (a weird year with 2nd gen chassis with 1st gen drivetrain) and 2010 escapes were great. I think 3rd gens were junk so they got a bad reputation and nobody is buying the 4th gen.

Ford Escape 1st Gen and 2nd Gen were the most popular models, then it went downhill after that. I've got the 2nd Gen which is in my opinion the best looking compact SUV Ford ever had. Currently, Bronco is the most popular compact/subcompact SUV for Ford
Those Ford Bronco's are flooding the streets quickly! Ford knows the market right now & understands who will buy into the name. They are closer to what an old bronco was vs new Escape to old Escape IMO. They've really scaled down the Escape but that makes some sense since it was positioned as a smaller compact SUV when it first launched. Those 1 & 2 gen's were interesting. I want to say it was Ford's first SUV hybrid option? Not sure if they even offer a hybrid on the latest models. I showed my wife a new Escape & she said "That's not an Escape" lol.

I know someone who spent $74,000 on a Bronco, well over MSRP and a ridiculous price. He was doing something with the soft top and wasn't paying attention and he pulled into the garage and bent the soft top frame. He called Ford and was originally told it's about $2,500 to replace. The dealership called him back and told him because he has the top trim it's a different soft top and it's $12,500. This poor guy is 6 weeks into owning a Ford and out $86,500. That doesn't include all upgrades he's doing. That's the kind of person who buys into the name.

We have three of the 3rd gen in the family. One has been just okay the other two fantastic. I am convinced they are superior to their replacement.

That’s a collision, he doesn’t have insurance?

Agree. Had an 08 escape in hybrid guise, my ex-wife’s car. I liked almost everything about it. The only thing I disliked was how silly the rear suspension looked from behind the car … you were looking at a car suspension, not a truck, and it bothered me. But those aesthetics aside, the drivetrain was great, driving dynamics were good, the hybrid was great on gas and fun to drive, visibility and all functions were well sorted, stereo was good, headlights worked well, nice dash layout, and seats were decent. I also liked the squared off lines of that body style.
