Of course the over thinking is wild. Apparently the now defunct GL6 classification was developed for the deep offset hypoid gears like those used in the Ford 9".

GL6 went away about 10 years after Ford stopped producing the 9". But some (most) aftermarket builders of 9" type axles recommend the GL6 fluid in like an 80w140.

I bought some Amsoil Severe Gear 80w90, to replace the SuperTech Synthetic I had in it after a rebuild.

This is not a severe abuse axle with 1,000 HP and track time.

2.91 ratio, 1959 Galaxie this is the "weakest" one with 28 spline axles.

Thank you very much

Yes, a 4 year labor of love

Only part I didn't do myself was paint

Great pic !!!
Nice work !

Don’t know the numbers
But I’d think the 352 wasn’t the high volume engine at that time
The Y block was still the best selling engine in 1959 I believe.

But it was ultimately replaced by the FE which could be had in a 332, 352, 360, 361, 390, 391, 401, 427, and 428. I think I got all of them....

The 352, 390, and 428 being the most popular through the years.

The Severe Gear meets the J2360 spec. I emailed Amsoil sbout it. However it isn't listed on the bottle as such.
