Anyone that knows anything about oil analysis will know that you can't make truly informed decisions based on uoa's you can have an engine dump tons of visible metal glitter yet the analysis will say 5ppm so you'll think it's all good. And not all oil analysis labs are created equal. Blackstone still can't measure fuel dilution. But the trucking and heavy industry uses them most on every oil change but it's not because they know it's infallible just better than nothing and as a waiver for wrong doing on maintenance neglect suspicions.

An engine isn't dropping "tons of visible metal glitter" because you extended the OCI by a couple thousand miles. .

I don't know what you're on about. What I stated was that you can have a UOA show great metal particle numbers on paper making you think it's in great shape but you can have tons of visible glitter being shed so the engine clearly isn't doing well, but if you went off the UOA numbers they would look great. The opposite is also true with some engines producing much higher than normal wear metal numbers but seemingly lasting forever anyway while also not shedding any visible metal particles. I would link that example but I don't remember if I bookmarked it and if I didn't I have no chance of finding it in the sea of posts that there are on here.

My point was :if you are dumping glitter, it is a problem outside the discussion of extending OCI.

To me, UOAs are basically for determining oil life & OCI length on extended drain oils. They can establish trends, but catastrophic failures seem to get missed, sometimes things just break.
