I remember reading a few posts a while back and people were concerned that their oil pressure gauges were reading erratically. I think most cars I`ve owned have done this, due to either a clogged or failing oil pressure sending unit. This morning I removed mine, got a long needle (some people use a tiny drill bit) and cleaned the input valve out really good. Now it works like brand new.

Thanks for the tip, something I now remember from the past. My OP is reading a little lower than it normally does on my 93 Aerostar. I might just give cleaning the sending unit a shot.

The factory oil pressure gauge on your Aerostar is nothing more than an on/off switch. I've had 2 Aerostars and both were the same (one 87 and my current 95)

There are instructions on one of the forums on how to modify it. It has something to do with soldering a wire in place of the 20 ohm in-line resistor and replacing the sending unit with a "real" one. If I find it, I'll post them later.

Many Nissan V6 engines have the same thing, and that glorified on/off switch doesn't last more than 40,000 miles in many cases.
