Torco, actually -- it is a blue oil.

Buddy! Welcome back!!!

I do remember the special place GC had on this site, alas, it is long gone...all are gaga over the thinnest oil that can be found.

There IS a VOA on BC 0W-40 in that section - it looks EXACTLY like the 0W-30, except it is just thick enough to be a 40-weight. GC is like 12.0-12.2 cst; BC 0W-40 is about 12.8-13.0 cst. I honestly don't think there is a lick of difference between the two, except a bit more VII in the 0W-40.

Althought I wil admit I've never taken the opportunity to run GC in a car yet, I still think it is one of the best 30-weight synthetics you can buy, and I think it is an excellent choice for winter OPE. I still recommend it every chance I can for folks who want to run the best in their snowblowers.

So I'm trying to keep the spirit alive!!!

Welcome back pscholte.

Thanks to this forum & yourself I still have about 70 liters of GC Green in my stash. I am this close to buying a Infinity G35 just to use up my GC as the VQ35 engines love it.

Yep, I had the VOA performed:

VOA - Castrol Edge 0w40

QP,

They only played at a serious attempt to brew Royal Purple but got distracted by the crepes and the white wine. In fact, it turned out a disaster and they gave up.

I still am consuming my stash as well. I appreciate the insight on the smurfs. I always wondered why the blue cartridge smelled like crepes and white wine.

The"go thin" movement was starting when I departed. I was always a "use the thickest stuff you can" but technological advancements are challenging the old ways.

I am glad you are trying to keep the spirit alive. Those were pretty fine times when GC was "royalty."

Thanks buster. From your numbers it appears you have been a "prolific poster," kind of the Leo Tolstoy of BITOG if you will.

My FX35 loves it. You know, it was this forum that introduced me to Mississauga Ontario.

Ah-h, Ross... Does my heart good to see that while GC no longer tops the charts it is far from forgotten. I just did FaceTime with Jurgen und Hans, former heads of the Elvish Black Forest production team now retired. When I showed them your picture I thought I saw a tear on Jurgen's cheek (but it might have been a little sauce from the Rahmschnitzel he had just finished)

By some odd coincidence, I changed the Forester's oil last Saturday and it got the last of my GC.
I figured I might as well use the oil for something and I have used it before in this car.

Welcome back pscholte! Are you going to soon disappear again for a few years to chase elves?

I can't believe there are still people out there with stashes of the original green GC!

-Dennis

Thanks shannow and bluesubie; and negative on the disappearing act; I intend to hang out with this wonderful eclectic group. I still have a good bit o'the green (that is NOT a coded message to indicate leprechauns took over brewing the green GC) and I will NEVER forget those early years of GC that some loved, some probably could not figure out and annoyed others. I will admit that I have come to a conclusion regarding motor oil: IF you can reasonably do so, and the country your car is from has a mature petroleum engineering segment, it is wise to use an oil that targets your engine, (e.g. US brands for American cars, French oils for French cars, etc...there are universal brands that apply to multiple engine origins: Amsoil, Mobil 1, Redline, Castrol). I used to believe that even in an American car you were better off with an oil that was A3/B3, SN/CF, etc etc and that is what drove me to Castrol since they usually tried to cover ALL the bases. Now I have come to the conclusion that an American engine does just fine with SN/GF-5 (assuming it is not a diesel) without all the other ratings. In a European, Japanese or Korean engine I would go with all the ratings or whatever the owners manual prescribes. I went through an "elitist phase" (I admit it) when if the oil were not Castrol, Total, Elf, Agip, Shell, it couldn't possibly be good...Pennzoil, Quaker State...are you kidding me? I also believed that American auto manufacturers were gaming us on their oil recomomendations. 5W-20? No way! Now I believe I have learned to know better. Because I like Euro stuff the Euro oils still hold a lure for me, but while the Infiniti runs GC, the Focus runs 5W-20 Kendall GT-1. I can live with that. I am still a tried and true syn guy though; I can quite comfortably live with a 0W-XX or a 5w-XX in a syn. Sorry to be so lengthy but I wanted to catch you up to how I am thinking now. :-O
