Thanks shannow and bluesubie; and negative on the disappearing act; I intend to hang out with this wonderful eclectic group. I still have a good bit o'the green (that is NOT a coded message to indicate leprechauns took over brewing the green GC) and I will NEVER forget those early years of GC that some loved, some probably could not figure out and annoyed others. I will admit that I have come to a conclusion regarding motor oil: IF you can reasonably do so, and the country your car is from has a mature petroleum engineering segment, it is wise to use an oil that targets your engine, (e.g. US brands for American cars, French oils for French cars, etc...there are universal brands that apply to multiple engine origins: Amsoil, Mobil 1, Redline, Castrol). I used to believe that even in an American car you were better off with an oil that was A3/B3, SN/CF, etc etc and that is what drove me to Castrol since they usually tried to cover ALL the bases. Now I have come to the conclusion that an American engine does just fine with SN/GF-5 (assuming it is not a diesel) without all the other ratings. In a European, Japanese or Korean engine I would go with all the ratings or whatever the owners manual prescribes. I went through an "elitist phase" (I admit it) when if the oil were not Castrol, Total, Elf, Agip, Shell, it couldn't possibly be good...Pennzoil, Quaker State...are you kidding me? I also believed that American auto manufacturers were gaming us on their oil recomomendations. 5W-20? No way! Now I believe I have learned to know better. Because I like Euro stuff the Euro oils still hold a lure for me, but while the Infiniti runs GC, the Focus runs 5W-20 Kendall GT-1. I can live with that. I am still a tried and true syn guy though; I can quite comfortably live with a 0W-XX or a 5w-XX in a syn. Sorry to be so lengthy but I wanted to catch you up to how I am thinking now. :-O
