Hi,
My father and I cut down a large tree and two smaller rotten trees, all of which were threatening their house. We did it with my stihl 180 and his echo 330, which is nearly 25 years old.
Both ran great, we got the jobs done easily and with safety and minimal incidents, and then cleaned up. I recently purchased some amsoil fogging oil from a site sponsor, so after we ran the saws out of gas, we went to fog them.
The echo was plain out of gas, and is in need of a tune up, so when I sprayed a bit into the choke, nothing happened, and then I sprayed it into the cylingder and moved the piston a bit - OK.
My stihl saw was still hot, but I pulled the chain and it idled a bit so I sprayed some fogging oil into the carb #@$%! per the instructions - it ran faster and better, though with a puff of smoke! Im not sure that is good, but OK. I then took out the spark plug (they torqued it in tight at the factory!), and sprayed some fogging oil in there. Since the piston was still somewhat hot (it had sat for probably 20 minutes since being run out of gas), the fogging oil let of some puffs of smoke as I sprayed it in. I pulled the starter rope, and dispersed it throughout, put in the plug and then tought all was well. Just to be sure, I pulled the starter rope again (the spark plug wire was re-attached), and it caught, first yank. I did pull it hard, to help sling fogging oil thoughout, but hadnt expected it to start, since I ran it out of gas previously.
Is it strange that 2-stroke engines can run on fogging oil? Is it bad that they run (albeit for less than two seconds) after being fogged? Any I just worrying too much?
Do you worry about fogging through the carb, or do you just spray some oil into the cylinder, move the cylinder around and leave it?
