After seeing ads everywhere for the SYNC system, I'm becoming more intrigued. It seems the newer system is basically it's own wi-fi hot spot(additional cell carrier charges apply, I think).

Maybe I'm behind the times tech-wise, but this seems like a very useful option that hasn't been available in other brands. Go FoMoCo!

chrysler has the same thing in all their new cars and trucks too. it'll probably be as standard as power locks and windows in a few years on every new car

I saw gorgeous red 2012 Focus pass through the parking lot at a local grocery store last week. It was attractive enough for me to visit the Ford web page and build a model that I would be interested in.

I was amazed that the only way to get a manual gearbox was in the base model version. There was nothing sporty about the 'SPORT' model either. So while I was expecting to be able to build a fun, sporty, hatchback with a 6-speed manual gearbox and snazzy brakes and traction control and big bolster seats... nope! Let it shift for you,, let it be a rolling communications center.. but don't let it excite you about the upcoming twisties.

Quite disappointing.

But racecars have automated shifting, right?

Dont you know that people can feel sporty by having some alloy wheels and the word "sport" somewhere on their car??!? Its not like most have any clue.

Yes, but I'm not buying it to race. I'm buying it for the pleasure of driving. I guess I'll wait until that hot rod model shows up to see if it's going to be a threat to the GTI.

I still think flappy paddle shifters are ridiculous.. even if Ferrari loves them.

If the Focus flappy shifter works half as well as the Ferrari ones do, I think I could live with it. I'll have to try one sometime, if shifts slow and doesn't rev match quickly or let you bounce off the rev limiter for a while, its not really a manual trans replacement. I do wonder about the durability of these transmissions long term but I guess if they are atleast as good as a traditional automatic, that would probably be fine.
