FMC #1995 Powerstroke Diesel Oil Filter

I have a 2002F350 7.3 Ford Powerstroke Diesel. I always use the M/C Powerstroke oil filter #1995 which is $10.00 at most parts stores in my area. I think this is the best choice for my truck. Any Powerstroke owners have any other opinions?

That's a good filter, not to mention a big filter! I've opened up a few powerstroke filters and find most to all of them look the same. In fact the $8 Purolator Premium Plus filter and the $12 Motorcraft filter looked exactly the same.

I use the Motorcraft FL-1995 or the Mobil 1 M1-601. The Mobil 1 is $10 at Auto Zone and the Motorcraft is $10 at Wal-Mart. (give a nickle or two) Either on work great, but if you can find the Super Tech at Wal Mart, about $6.79 as I remember, Part number ST-3786. In fact I have all 3 on hand for future changes.

I also hear the Purolater is a good oil filter. That would be my second choice I guess, if I had to choose another oil filter.

I have seen the Mobil 1 oil filters at Auto Zone. I didn't realize they were only around $10.00 or so. I have also seen the Super Tech oil filters at WM. They seem constructed pretty well, and I remember reading on one of the Ford diesel websites some Powerstroke owners were using them with no problems. I'm going to use the MC#1995 as my first choice, but it is good to know there are a few other quality oil filters just in case.

I have an earlier Ford 6.9L IDI diesel (with a Banks turbo kit the last 18 years) and recently switched to the bigger FL-1995 filter from the smaller FL-784, which is spec'ed for my older engine. I've had the truck since it was a year old (it's an '86) and have always used the FL-784 till now. I noticed something interesting on the Wix site about these filters... at least on the Wix brand. The Wix FL-1995 equivalent (Wix 51734)had a nominal micron rating of 19 with a Beta ratio of 2/20=10/30 while the 784 equivalent (Wix 51742) had a nominal micron rating of 25 and a beta ratio of 2/20=24/44. I suspect any filter brand will (or should) follow the same trend because the Powerstroke has the HEUI injection and it's more susceptible to dirty oil than the old IDI engines were. Both engines have an internal bypass, BTW. It took me ten years to figure this out, sheesh! My truck has only 120K miles, so with the better filter, I figure they’ll roll me into the grave in my old Ford with the original engine intact. I'd sure like to be able to determine the filtration specs on the Motorcraft filters! BTW, my Wal Mart just got rid of all the MC filters (again). Lucky I just switched to Wix.

I have the Super Tech filter on th ePS right now , and just prior to that had the Mobil 1 filter on. There are 2 MC filters on the shelf for future use. I was thinking of ordering some fleetguard filters just for more variety.
. ps. And I have used the Wix filter as well. All are good it seems.

Possibly because aftermarket Motorcraft filters are made by Purolator. Not sure about the FL-1995, but the FL-820S is a PureOne element in a Premium Plus can.
