Interesting piece I came across on this lazy Saturday.
Heck of a journey all the way from England to the Antarctic. Even more challenging than ferrying a light single to Europe or Hawaii from the continental US.
Of course much larger and far more comfortable and commodious modern aircraft have landed on this continent, notably the A-340, but the Twotters do this every year and are also useful for transport intra-continental. These are also far more maintainable in the field and there is even a hangar that will take four of them.
Interesting read I thought I'd share.

When I worked in Antarctica (light vehicle mechanic) way back in1986. I loaded a fuel barrel and Ski-Doo Elan snow machine into one of Otters. They were taking it out to one of the science base camps. Unreal the amount of hours and miles these aircraft have on them.
Thank you for posting this. Brought back some great memories.

Thanks for the post. Also there is Kenn Borek Air out of Canada that has been flying between Argentina and Antarctica for many years, also with Twin Otters.

I have flown for many, many years - worst head pains in my life came from twin engine otters - guts for that matter - get those huge rectangular wings in some weather and it’s saddle bronc action 👀😵‍💫

Canadian company, First Air, has operated down in Antarctica as well.

First Air operated B727 ( landed on sea ice near Greenland ) , HS748, King Air and Twin Otters when I flew for them.

Edit: Their fleet also included a C-130 Hercules.
