I'm new to the site , first post.. I have a 2006 Lincoln zephyr(mkz) with 73,000 miles and my oil change guy said its probably time for a trans flush... The flush is 89.00 and from what I've read maybe a drain would be better.. Want to go to full synthetic also..what should I do? Car shifts fine , could be smoother.. I drive 85 highway miles a day, thanx

go with the 89 dollar flush. that way you have all new fluid instead of just draining half of it. i would have them change the filter too but that will probably run you 150 for both

they are going to use a universal fluid so i would probably dump in some lubeguard green

Drop the oil pan and wipe out all the grit. Put a O- type magnet in the pan and refill with regular tranny fluid. I would only recommend synthetic if you are towing.

I agree with this, if you can do it yourself.

If you are not changing the filter, do a complete flush. A drain and fill only changes about a third of the fluid.

I don't tow anything, and car is lowered, sits bout 2" off of ground, so I go this guy since he has a pit...thanx for the advice, will probably go with the flush

ask how much for the filter change with it while you are there. if its less than 150 i would do it! then there is no reason you cant go another 60k

Hey, that car does not take just any fluid. It uses the AWF21 transmission which takes the same fluid that Toyota uses. the
ATF T-IV. (can't remember the exact wording, ATF T-IV), Ford and Lincoln also sell this fluid under the Motorcraft name. Called something like "Motorcraft Premium Automatic Transmission Fluid."

Do not let your oil guy use the regular GM (Dexron) or Ford (Mercon) fluid, adding some kind of stuff to convert it to the correct fluid. Use the correct fluid in the first place. The correct fluid does not cost that much.

If you must go with a synthetic, I've used Wolfs Head Universal Synthetic ATF which works fine, and is not expensive.

Again, don't use Dextron or Mercon, even with the "special" additive. Use the correct fluid.

if its Mercon SP or LV you can convert it with platinum

Replaces the need to stock various ATF's eliminating ATF confusion! Also for use to enhance . Replaces any highly friction modified ATF (Mopar ATF +3/+4, Toyota T-IV, Honda Z-1 etc.) as well as other speicalty ATF's including BMW, Mercon LV/SP, Nissan Matic D/K, Esso Type , Kia Red, Toyota WS, Shell1375.4, Fuchs, Mercedes Benz, Saab, Saturn, Idemitsu, Volkswagen, & other ATF's

most pennzoil shops (which is most of them) use pennzoil universal atf and they put it in everything. havent seen any problems yet but i would probably put an additive in just to be safe

I looked in my owners manual and it reccommends ford premium ATF part # xt-8-qaw. Ford spec- wss-m2c924-a. The only equilivent I found is mobil jws3309..so I'm thinking I should stick with the oem trans fluid ..

sounds like a plan. i dont where you would get it tho, except from ford.
if you just have the dealer do it they will get it right and keep records for ya. last time it cost me 100 for my explorer at the ford house. not too bad
