I changed some of the fluids in my wives Mazda 3 this weekend. Changed the oil and oil filter. Also drained and refilled the auto transmission fluid. Was checking everything over along with taking care of some other items in the garage. During refill of both, I checked the capacities in the service manual. Here is my question:

I refilled both the engine oil and transmission fluid but both are approximately a 1/4 - 1/3 of a quart above the "full" line on the dipsticks. Will this be fine until the next time they are changed?

that doesnt seem too bad, IMO

Auto transmission I am not sure about.

But for the engine you are golden. I had a Honda roll through my shop that dropped 7 quarts into my drain pan once. Oil didn't froth.

Not a problem with either of the slight overfills you mentioned. The main problem with overfilling Eng, ATF, Power Steering, and Coolant is the potential of overflows, but all of those have some cap to avoid it. You have not grossly overfilled either. Now, Differential and Manual Trans overfilling might cause slight overheating and additional internal pressure, eventually compromising a weak seal.

I can't say for the transmission but I'm afraid of the possible aeration of the engine oil. That sounds very little over but I'd have to drain a squirt if mine, especially if it'll be in there a good while.

No problem with the oil.

I'm pretty sure that the Transmission is OK as well. The manufacturers do take into account that levels are not always exact even when there are marks. As long as you are not waaay above the max like an inch you are just fine.

One way to check for foaming is to drive the car for 20 minutes going through the gears. Then as soon as possible stop and remove the dip stick from the transaxle. Do you see a lot of bubbles? If not you are fine.
