At 115,000 miles I think it is time to change the transmission fluid. Is there a reasonable alternative to the expensive stuff Audi sells?

Not to mention it's 13 years old. Is the fluid thick black and goopy from looking at the atf dipstick? Report back...

ATF dipstick on a manual trans car?

M1 75w-90 is a GL-5 fluid. Double check again what your trans calls for. If it specifically calls for GL-4 (like my old 2001 Audi did), then I would not use a GL-5 fluid in it. The EP additives in GL-5 fluid are said to negatively affect brass synchros in the trans.

It is a GL-5 fluid.

A customer on the Mobil.com site asked a question about using M1 75w-90 GL-5 in their Audi manual trans and Mobil specifically stated that it should NOT be used in that application. As a GL-4 fluid is required.
