Good evening, hoping some of you who might be up on Florida vehicle purchasing can help a NY resident out. Dad bought the 2016 Silverado W/T in Florida. I've posted the invoice that he's been sent. It doesn't make sense to us.
To start, I'll say that I am flying down and driving this truck back on a temporary Florida tag. We are registering/titling it in New York and plan to pay tax when up here.
1) Under optional vehicles/services, he's being charged $399. Salesman said that it is a Florida law that covers a vehicle if it is stolen. Is this a thing?
2) $47.95 for EFile, I assume that is Florida DMV filing?
3) Taxes... wouldn't I only pay NY tax when registering it? Or for any Florida vehicle purchase do you have to pay tax? I see that NY has a reciprocity for full tax rate (according to NY DMV site).
4) $400 for registration and titling. Since we just want a temp tag from Florida and are registering and titling in NY for NYS, this also seems like a bogus charge.
$699 dealer fees, steep, but makes sense -- under this I would also expect to cover our temporary tag. Can a Florida dealer register a vehicle for NY? Because that has been mentioned by the salesman to Dad and I just don't see how that is possible.
Any insight is appreciated. I can understand the dealer fee and or taxes, but looking at this -- I am thinking this invoice is $846.95 too high (or $1951.46 if including taxes). I will call the salesman/dealer tomorrow and request a new invoice with what should/shouldn't be on the paperwork prior to Dad paying.
