Why does someone in Florida use winter mats?

I use rubber "Monster" mats year round in North Carolina because they're easier to clean.
Carpet mats look nice, but my SUV's aren't show cars.
They aren't winter mats, they are an OEM all weather mat factory option. The car also comes with carpet mats as well. The carpet mats are not nearly as easy to clean up and collect dirt more easily. No reason to use them on a regular basis with the Monster Mats are an option.
Yeah pretty much any mess can be cleaned, but I'm a bit particular myself. Drinks for adults are fine in a closed container, granddaughter has a true no-spill cup, etc. Some question that, but oh well... that's why my ride is over 7 yrs old and looks pretty much brand new. If anyone riding with me has any real complaints they are welcome to walk instead. I have seen very worst case scenarios though. A family member did babysit for a couple that have a rather good income, combined $250K and they have a few 'could be nice' vehicles. One was a Volvo SUV (since traded) and the thing was so disgusting from food/drink being left in it for months-years there were different forms of life embedded under the floor mats. As in molded items, maggots at one point, that sort of thing. Of course we all have a different take on priority/maintenance, but having a compost pile in your vehicle is a bit much!
Very nice work. Do you spray and rubber protectant on these? 303 or Carpro Perl Would help them look new forever and maybe make cleaning a bit easier.
No, these floor mats have a lot of grooves and recessed areas. I feel I wouldn't get even coverage. It likely would look splotchy as the end result. Maybe I can try in the future.
Food in cars when you live in the country brings mice etc. Consider just saying "no".

There is a quicker way to accomplish what you are doing. Use the leftover car wash soap with a tire/wheel brush. Pour the leftover soap over the mats, scrub, then rinse off. Better yet, pressure wash off. Dry with compressed air or whatever device you use to blow water out of the crevices.
BTW, for a car as small as a Jetta, you should be able to do a quality weekly/bi-weekly wash in well under 90 minutes. We should all be getting faster/more efficient as time goes on. Based on my experience, if it is taking you 90 minutes to do what you describe, there is probably opportunity for improvement in your technique.

It takes me about 90 minutes from start to finish, including cleaning the interior. I could go faster, but I'd rather take my time for sanity sake. I have a tendency to feel stressed when I start rushing a project. I have just about perfected my technique, and a fair amount of time is spend cleaning the wheel wells, wheels and tires which I do with every wash.
Dang, everyone giving you a hard time and all. I do my weather tech mats a couple times a year, good enough for me

I have OEM carpet mats in my vehicle. I take them out and vacuum them then wash them with laundy detergen and water, then hang them to drip dry. After they are completely dry I spay them with Automotive Scotchguard (once a year). Maybe its overkill but I like to keep my car clean and tidy, I despise clutter and junk all over the place in my car. Plus in the texas heat any tiny bit of food makes your vehicle smell like a dumpster

Winter mats? I live in Arizona where it doesn’t even rain, and I have Weather Techs in my Genesis.
I’m not too particular about cleaning but my carpets are like new.
You could take the mats along into the weekly bath/shower...I do well to give myself a weekly bath.

When my floor mats(even light colors/ gray or tan) are really dirty, I use automatic dish washer soap.
I first soak the mats with water(garden hose) and sqirt on the dishwasher soap & brush in w/ a long handle ca wash brush. I've even let the sit in the sun for > 30 minutes then rinse thoroughly and let dry all day hanging longitude so all of the water falls & drips.

I wash my floor mats in the bathtub. I get each wet and then spread a cap of Woolite onto the carpet surface. I rub the stuff into the carpet to get the deep crap out. Rinse with the shower sprayer. I then allow it drain for a few minutes. Then I do the other mat. I put them in the washer with the carpet side out and spin them for 10 minutes. Last, into the dryer on the lowest heat setting for 20 minutes. Worx for me.
