I have a weird issue with my accent, if I floor the car, downshift, boom, all the gauges drop dead for a second than come back.

The only thing I did recently is change the spark plug and gap them a bit wider.

Any inputs on this weird issue?

Thanks!

Were you the one asking recently about changing the gap from the factory spec of .044? I remember everyone said don't do that. I would put it back, could be causing a weak spark, flooding/stalling. If a stall almost happens the gauges may go awry.

Engines work harder in the winter. Change the gaps back! haha

All gauges dropping ?

Are all accessories dropping as well (heater/ac fan, radio, etc)

That sounds like an electrical overload or ground

Check your fuses? (my experience is a bit similar but that was a previously badly cared '95 accent)
also from my experience hyundai's drop the original battery or alternator at around 4-5 years (source '95 accent and 2004 elantra)

I'm going to go with an intermittently bad solder joint probably in the instrument panel or some other system bus connector.

also the clock resets too, right?
I experienced this when my alternator dropped, then battery got drained, then automatic had some big jerky moves, then died right in the gas station right after getting down from a highway (lucky me...)

check alternator belt tension, grounds and battery connections. has nothing to do with what you touched.

Its that star wars warp speed stuff. LOL
Try not to floor it.

On a serious note, sounds like a loose connection somewhere. Maybe the power that feeds that part of the dash? I wouldn't say a fuse because it would be dead all the time.

Sounds like the engine is flopping around, with an intermittent contact.
First is the battery cables - check and clean BOTH of them and BOTH ends!

How much did you increase your plug gap? Up to .005" should pose no problem at all , unless you have another weak link in the system.
