Hello, going to start doing my own oil/changes greasing on my 2003 GMC 1500HD. I have always taken it to the dealer but their recent spike has pushed me to just do it. I’m not new to oil changes just have a grease question.

I have tubes of Fleet Farm All Weather Lith-Flex I just use on the mowers and such. Is that an ok chassis grease?

OEM recommendation is (GM Part No. 12377985 or equivalent) or lubricant meeting requirements of NLGI # 2 Category LB or GC-LB.

The tube says lithium based multi-purpose....NLGI #2 Approx Temp Range 0-275. Bottled by Citgo. I don’t see the "LB" or "GC-LB" designations on the tube.

Thanks in advance,

Robert

PlainsmanND,

I understand the dilemma you're facing. I went through this with my Cherokee and have used the Mystik Hi-Temp Multi-Purpose JT6 for more than 90k miles with no front end (except a few worn bushings) or slip spline difficulties. My Jeep's owners/shop manual calls for NLGI 2 and GC-LB. The Mystik Hi-Temp Multi-purpose JT6 is rated NLGI 2 and GC-LB.

I have an unopened replacement tube I recently brought from Blain's Farm and Fleet in Sturtevant, WI. My other car, a Liberty, has no Zerk fittings so a tube of chassis grease lasts a long time for me.

I've also bought this Mystik grease in the past at the local hardware store. I stumbled on to this when I discovered that my Jeep had been previously serviced with "red" grease when I attempted my first grease job back when.

I hope this helps!

PlainsmanND, when looking for a grease to use on automotive applications be sure and look for the GC-LB rating. This is an industry standard for wheelbearings and chassic lubrication. As Six indicates, he uses Mystik JT-6 Hi-temp Multi-Purpose #2 which is rated GC-LB. One grease that fits all lube points on your car or truck.
The Lith-Flex is a general purpose grease without a rating if you do not see GC-LB on the label.
