Flat spotting

The Goodyear Eagle F1's on my 2015 Focus ST have been flat spotting overnight. In the morning they vibrate for the first 3-5 miles and after that, silky smooth all day.

The car just hit 2000 miles. Tire pressure is good. The car is parked in the garage at night.

Its just been awhile since I've had high performance tires and cannot remember if this is normal for this type of tire.

I hate going to the dealer for anything. Would a Goodyear shop be able to warranty these? Or is this normal?

Not common to find an OEM tire flat spotting. Could cause a lot of grief for Ford dealers. Try swapping front to back and see if there is a change.

Happens quite often with high perf tires unfortunately. Most mfgs will not warranty it, but you can try.

Years ago the tires with nylon plies were bad about flat spotting. I would run 50 pounds pressure in them for 500 or so miles and then drop them to normal and the flat spotting was minimized.

while not a High Perf Tire, I had a set of Pirelli's( Cinturato p7's I think) that were just all seasons, but with a crazy long treadlife warranty (something like 80k mi)which translates to a harder compound, and they would behave just like the OP is suggesting.

I have never experienced flatspotting on any tire brand. I've used Pirelli, Michelin, Goodyear, Toyo, Dunlop, Continental and Cooper tires. I have over the years read a lot of complaints about Kumho tires developing flat spots over night.

Was common with the old style bias ply tires with nylon cord material. I've never experienced it with steel belted radials. Ed

The Cooper AT3 all terrains I put on 3K ago flat spot overnight. Discount Tire said normal for some models. Hmm..

Go to the dealer and complain. We just replaced a set on a ST for "poor traction" under warranty.

Most low profile tires will flat spot .

What is flatspotting in tires is the nylon overlay - aka "Cap Ply". Pretty much all H and higher speed rated tires have cap plies, but some S and T rated tires might have them also.

I would try a bit more pressure and see how that goes.

Thanks everyone. Also found an article on Tirerack that basically said its normal for high perf tires.

I'll play around with the pressure a bit. They're already pretty stiff at placard pressure...I might just leave them there.

Only significant 'flat spotting' I've ever experienced was with a new set of Conti DWS 215/50-17 on a 3.0L Accord. By significant I mean noticeable vibration over for an extended period after sitting over night. Car vibrated in an unacceptable manner for me. Don't consider myself particularly picky about ride, but the DWS was like something I never experienced before or since. And I did try a slightly increased air pressure, no improvement. After thirty days returned them to DT and got V rated Primacy MXV4 in their place. No comparison, a much improved ride. No Michelin fanboy either, in fact first set of Michelin I've ever purchased not OEM, and I've purchased many sets of tires in my life.

Higher performance tires tend to be softer compound designed to give and flex in certain ways and when they sit..they will do that. Unless you change tires(and even then depending on what you cange them to) would that go away. Personally, I wouldn't worry about it. But I understand that you bought a new car and don't really want that feeling at any point.
