Coot back very temporarily. Leaving soon for another multi-thousand mile trek.

But, in the meantime, assuredly, without doubt, the masses are clamoring to know the latest data acquisition.

Well.... it is........

5,280

Pounds, that is. 5,280 lbs (lubs ? )

Yep. That's what the certified scale declared the 2004 Chevy Silverado weighed with 1/4 tank of gas and a standard load of tools, extra oil, etc but with no Coot aboard.

Eeeeek!!!!!! Over 2-1/2 tons!!!!!!

Do not anger Coot or he will drive upon thee.

I wasn't far off when I said in an inquisitory thread that you'd gone trucking.

Obbop, now if you want to confuse people, tell them your truck weighs one mile. When they look at you like you've lost your marbles, tell them "Yep. 5,280 lbs."

Empty my 3/4 ton is about 6700 lbs, and I guess with the tools, canopy, seats in the bed, it's over 7000 lbs. The Dodge 2004 2500 regular cab long bed 2wd with the hemi weighs 5432 lbs, while a quad cab long bed 4wd with the diesel weighs in at 7314 lbs (the 6spd manual is slightly heavier than the 5 speed manual). The diesel is about an extra 800 lbs, and 4wd is about an extra 450 lbs. Things add up quick.

Substitute teaching. Work just enough to barely scrape by.

Hard to get full-time work.... Coot refuses to go to the inner city and deal with barbarians who ridicule education... life is too short to deal with vermin.

Locally, last opening had over 300 applicatns for one job.

Can't recommend teaching unless you grab a English-as-second-language or special education certificate.... or, perhaps, a math or science one but I hear of folks with those also having trouble finding work outside the inner city battlezones.

Coot too old to grab more training and decades of heavy physical labor took a toll on the body..... can't do most of the jobs I used to do but, even if I could, I would be competing for work with MILLIONS of illegals who have driven wages down.

Future bleak for Old Coots of the world, that's why I grabbed a long-bed pick-em-up with a topper/shell atop. Will at least be able to keep the rain off the head and the chilly wind off the decrepit body while squatting somewhere rural, scraping by on what Social Security, if any, checks trickle in.

Old Coot doesn't bellow about class warfare for no reason from time-to-time.... for decades I was among a multitude performing the tasks that elites spew Americans are unwilling to do.

Sigh.......

Sorry about the rant. Coot just angry and a wee bit fearful of the future.

Guess I shoulda' been one of the upper class who have a huge underclass to support their existence.
