Shortly before noon on July 30, Ashcroft Fire was dispatched to a landscape fire burning 6 kilometers south of town, just off the east side of Highway 1.

A quick investigation revealed the unusual cause of the fire: a fish. The fish had been dropped by a local osprey onto a hydro line, causing embers to fall into the dry grasses below.

"We do suspect by the size of the fish and the heat of the day probably caused the rather tired bird to drop its catch," said a spokesperson. "Or another suspicion could be that it’s tired of raw fish and wanted to give cooked a try."

"The suspect osprey has been caught and is being held in custody for questioning. The judge has not granted bail as the suspect poses an extreme flight risk!" the agency said jokingly on Facebook.

Years ago driving down I 5 in Oregon an eagle dropped a fish going across the highway that just missed my pickup windshield by about a foot. What are the odds of that?

I was driving down a country road in my 64 VW bug with the vent window wide open. A crow crapped on top of the vent window and it ricocheted into my ear. What are the odds of that?

Pretty good actually. Those triangle vent windows would also catch bees and throw them right into the driver's face. You don't see them on cars any more.

Driving a '66 Econoline van a bee came in the air vent that is down under the steering wheel column and went up my pants leg. Not fun.
Those Co. vans also had the steel cab dividers, standard then and in later years, bee's would come in the window, hit the wall and drop down between the seat and your back in the days before having A/C and needing the window down.
