I just found out where my UOA sample went...

In the trash!

The Schaeffer's UAO kit that I had gotten from my local 'Shop', was very much outdated and used a now invalid address, to a P.O. Box in Reno, NV.

The correct address is to the lab in Sparks, NV.

I will attempt a redo! I'm just not sure if the sample will be good anymore, having sat in the garage for this long...

if was in a sealed container it should still be ok

from Blackstone FAO's

I took a sample three months ago and forgot to send it in. It's been on a shelf in my garage ever since. Can I still send it in? Will the results still be good?

Should be fine.

The sample I had sent was carefully obtained, using the midstream - while the oil is still hot, method.

The new sample will have gone through my plastic, "no way to properly clean out," oil drain pan. I also use this "pan" to drain the oil from the filter and for transmission fluid.

I'm pretty sure there will be some type of cross-contamination. Maybe from residual ATF or from a previous oil change...

I wouldn't send it then if its coming out of your oil drain pan.

Results would be meaningless and a waste of money.

I got the oil samples sent off today.

I included the factory-fill, as it was the first fluid to go through the then "brand new," oil drain pan. I also sent off my home-brew mix, but I doubt the results will be accurate.

It would have been nice to have some sort of baseline, to later compare with the RLI based blend I am using now.

I'll be sure and always make an oil sample backup, from now on...

Just wanted to add, for those with Schaeffer OA kits addressed to Sparks, Nevada,... The suite number is not printed on the bottle, and should be added. --Just in case.
