I wanted to change oil to add AutoRx and this is what came out.

Ford 5.4L V-8
MAKE/MODEL: FUEL TYPE: ADDITIONAL INFO:
Gasoline (Unleaded)
OIL TYPE & GRADE: OIL USE INTERVAL:
Amsoil Synthetic 5w20 1,968 Miles

Universal averages show typical wear levels from this type of engine after 5500 miles on the oil. This oil was in use shorter than that, and the wear profile it contains is almost identical to average. So your wear rate (ppm/mile) is higher than average, but it's still close enough to normal not to be an express concern. The TBN read 6.5 (1.0 is low); plenty of additive was still active. The marginally low viscosity didn't hurt anything and may be due to the Z-Max additives, since that is a solvent type additive. This looks like a nice 5.4L. Resample in another 3K miles on this oil.

There was no need to throw out (ie waste) the $$ on this oil to put in Auto-RX. Or spent the $$ for the UOA.

So 6 quarts of Amsoil = $48
1 UOA with TBN = $32

$80 for a 2k oil change? Wow.

The UOA looks ok. What is the total miles on the rig? What is the comment about Zmax (another WASTE of $$) about?

What are you hoping for with the Auto-RX?

Take care, Bill

I've been maxing my spark and fuel tables on the last few OCIs. Besides seeing where the engine is at wear wise I was also wanting to see if any damage was caused while tuning. Total outlay for tuner/software/educational material is $1200. Cheapest replacement engine is $1800 and the engine I want is $7500. Engine gets stressed so I know so far it's ok. Now when I was racing this was a drop in the bucket on the late model.

We ran amsoil syn in the race engines and loved what we saw. ZMax claimed a cleaner systemit's used in. Got talked out of further use on BITOG and viscosity test proved it. It did seem to work on the stock injectors but the new ones work better.

With solids at 0.4% in 2000 miles you had some SERIOUS cleaning going on. That would explain the iron, although the Z-max probably caused that long with your viscosity falling through the floor.....

THANX now I just need to know how to anylize the report more thoroughly. I'd put dawn dishwashing liquid in if it worked. lol

I assumed it was a thinned out ASL 5w30 (by the Mo and B).....now I'm not so sure.

It's 5W20 for me and 5W30 for the wife's car.

So this is 5W-20? The formula doesn't look right. Where is the 5w30 UOA?
