First time post.....Fram Extended Guard

I have been using Pureone and Mobil 1 oil filters for years now on my 02 Celica w/50k. I was due for a change and I was being lazy and I picked up a Fram Extended Guard for just over 4 bucks at our base exchange. Anyone have any bad experiences with these? I

I haven't used Fram oil filters since I've joined this board. There are better filters that you can buy that are similarly priced. For example, WalMart's Super Tech filters are very good. Wix/Napa filters are good. Fram filters here are referred to as "The orange wall of death."

Good info. I just got a case of Wix 51394 filters a few weeks ago. Very nice construction, but I still haven't found their filter specs.

The Extended Guard is different than the Extra Guard. The Extended Guard is a very good filter.

I have read many mixed reviews. Fuzzy media, metal screen on the media...

FWIW.. I use a FRAM Tough Guard for my 99 Jetta 2.0 . This is actually a decent filter and can be found easily. No engine destuction from this filter.

Very good construction, imo. Typically too high priced when compared to other top tier filters. If you can get them cheap enough ..good

VW/AUDI has special requirements that typically trump cheap construction. The filter, if it meets OEM spec's, has to withstand around 30 PSID across the media without bypassing. Most filters are between 8 and 16 (8-11 WIX 12-16 Purolator).

What is the filtration specs for the Wix? I know the Fram XG4967 states 96 multi-pass?

That you'll have to email them for. The single pass nominal, as you can see, is 28um ..but that doesn't tell you much.
