What's up everyone? This is my first post, just wanted to give a run down of my truck and oil/filter setup.
96 Toyota T100, 2.7L 4 Cyl, 2WD with 215K miles.
Castrol Syntec or* Mobil 1 synthetic 10W-40
Purolator PureOne or* Bosch Premium filter
*(whichever is cheaper at the time)
My truck runs pretty well, and I keep up with my oil changes. I change my synthetic around 7K miles or every 4 months.
I live in Atlanta, GA (mild winters, hot summers).
Though most of my work commute is highway, traffic is often heavy, and I am sometimes stuck in stop and go situations.
When I'm cold cranking my truck in the winter, the engine knocks a little until it warms up. I'm told that is typical for my engine, and that one thing to do to minimize the knocking is to use a thicker oil. How sound is that advise? I think 10W-40 is plenty heavy... should I bother bumping it up to something heavier?
Are there better formulas or weights to use during winter as opposed to summer, or for stop and go traffic? Should I be using a different weight all together?
Thanks in advance for any input!
