Did you do anything special to the out-going mower, 25 years ago? Did that mower have any oil-burning or hard-to-start issues that may have been attributable to its break-in (or lack thereof) that you're trying to correct this go around?
Once the first tank of gas is run out. Leave it empty so you can flip the mower on to it's side to dump out the oil. I like refilling with 15w40 heavy-duty engine oil, but any decent motor oil will d0 30, 40wt variants preferred.
Not much you can do since many have a fixed throttle but I would change oil at 5 hours then you can follow regular changes as specified.You did it correctly with your old mower since you got over 25 years out of it.
