Firestone Oil Filter TF2808

I looked on ebay for some Hyundai OEM filter deals and found a Firestone oil filter listing. It's for a case of 12 for a little less than $36 shipped.

Does anyone have experience using Firestone oil filters? How good are they?

They should be made by Champ Labs, a service grade filter equal to SuperTech, STP, etc. They shouldn't be E-cores for a filter of that size, which is good IMHO.

Doesn't Hyundai specifically frown upon using aftermarket filters for some reason, or am I thinking of someone else?

They do, but I've used a few different ones without any issues.

Car is @ 48k mi and runs smoother than the 1st day off the lot. When I brought it in to the dealer, they told me to use OEM but didn't specify why. They also didn't inform me of any issues that could be caused by using a NON OEM filter. ...So I figured everything is fine.

Start-up rattle and engine noise. The TSB has been posted here in the oil filter forum a few times.

Read all the info and decide for yourself to use OEM or not.

Thanks for the info Z06. Sounds like all the top brands I like (M1 and Puro) are fine. Guess I'll stick to these since they come with oil specials.

I would stick with the better filters like you have been using my Hyundai does well on non OEM filters but only the better ones...the cheaper ones it tends to make more noise with

Your using a top-shelf oil (PU).....but considering to go cheap on a filter (Firestone). I can't understand that.

IMO...if your OCI's are about 7500 miles....the Purolator PureOne is more that adequate... and considered a 'best bang for the buck' filter. I've use them for over four years....never had an issue.... and they are reasonably priced.

If your doing shorter OCI's (5000 or so)....the the Purolator Classic is more than adequate....and can be purchased for under $4 at WalMart

I was shopping for Hyundai OEM filters and just happened to come across the Firestone listing. Curiosity on the filter's capabilities made me ask here. I don't intend to use any cheap filters as my go-to default is the P1.

I think that's an excellent choice....

Someone can correct me if I am wrong but my understanding is that Firestone filters are not sold at the retail level direct to consumer but is just the jobber brand for Firestone service center use only.

Point being, is unless you had a Firestone filter installed as part of a Firestone service center oil change, you are not going to have any warranty regress if the filter fails.
