Firefox British English - no spell check

Not sure what the deal was when I used Firefox on an old PC laptop I’ve got as a backup. It still doesn’t autocorrect, but it didn’t even show any clear spelling errors nor did it give any suggestions or replacement spellings. Then once I needed to download something, I found that it selected the British English version. So I looked into it, and it was the British English language set up in Firefox. Not sure why. Once I switched it to American English, I got spelling suggestions.

I’m wondering what the deal was with the lack of spell check. I would have thought there would have been something even though it was a different English language style.

I had that issue once. Not British English, just lack of spell check. Finally figured out it was just a browser setting that was changed somehow.

When I was at War College with the Royal Navy, in Shrivenham, I naturally used British spelling for all of my papers and presentations.

Having gone to grammar school in Canada, it was an easy switch.

Not a big fan of spell check or autocorrect - much of the vernacular in my profession, as well as my choice of vocabulary, gets "corrected" to the completely wrong word. Then I have to fix the fix. Apple is the worst about this, and I can't turn it off.

Spell check is an annoyance, not a help.

When you right click in a text field do you not see the option to "Check Spelling"? I thought that'd be irrespective of your installed or available language packs. Mine are en-US, en-GB and my active one, en-CA (which no one, and I mean NO ONE, gets right).

I see that now. Didn't see it before I switched to American English. I does occur to me that perhaps there was something that wasn't completely installed previously, but I don't know for sure.
