The May-June or August-September time frame would be better.....temp wise.

Visited a cozy little town called Petoskey,MI and traveled to Traverse City,MI and had coffee/breakfast at a place called "Brew".
I finally saw snow and experienced what real winter means.
29 was the highest it ever got and wind chill was 10ish for the norm.
Knowing it gets even colder up there,I have a deeper appreciation of what you guys up north go through every winter.
It was a great visit , but it's great to be back at home in SE Texas where it's expected to be 80F on Tuesday next week.
We plan to go back and visit when we have more time.

I'll take Petoskey weather year-round over the 4-5 hottest months SE Texas sees. I can dress for the cold. But for those without A.C., one cannot dress for the gasping heat South Texas gets.

No thank you. The four seasons here are wonderful. My idea of improving on Petoskey-type weather would be an additional one month of warmth (not hot) and one less month of cold (Jan-Feb temps) here.

Desert states are another no-thank-you for me. I would never live around places like Phoenix Arizona..... no way Jose.

Glad you enjoyed the area and the different weather BudOne. Come back again.

Plus you have the benefit of Petoskey Batman keeping you safe at night. It's hard to pass up a superhero in your neighborhood.

I am FASCINATED with the prospect of experiencing a bit winter one day. I live on the SE TX Gulf Coast. My lifestyle is way too busy to just take off and go up north right now, but one day I am going to fly up to Minneapolis (or some place like that) in the dead of winter for a week or so, and see for myself what this so called "Winter" you guys talk about is like. BTW, my kids swam at the beach this past Christmas day, Seriously.

If anyone wants a realistic simulation, sit in a sauna for a half hour or so, until you are totally drenched with sweat. Multiply by 6-8 months. Done.

You're never really that far away from winter snow in any part of California. Even parts of Southern California get snow every year.

I grew up in the Bay Area, but have experienced snow around Reno and Tahoe since I was a kid.

I wouldn't live in the NorthEast if it weren't for global warming.

It is 51.9*f here in Palo Cedro California . It is winter enough for me!. Water freezes at 50*f in these parts.

That's not remotely accurate or true. ... Here in southeast Va in February 2014, and 2015 were very, very cold. Average high temperature in February 2014 was barely 33°F aka the 3rd coldest February on record by the way. I am exceptionally quite sure it was a fair amount colder yet in Pennsylvania.

I don't know if you could go that far though, southwest Florida has been experiencing sunny skies and 80-85 degrees for the past three months. I can't wait to get to Fort Myers on Thursday morning and experience that glorious weather for a few days.

I like 4 seasons and so do the kids. Here they are on the pond last weekend.

It was only -2C so they were getting hot and needed to cool down after skating so much...

They stayed that way for a couple minutes too, crazy boys...

Summer is good too, but someone needs to invent a wood burning AC system...

And yes.. they said it had been a mild winter so far.
My family in Livonia,MI said that it's been pretty warm.

I worked in Livonia for a little under a year, right next to the little mall at 6 Mile and 275 that had a Max&Erma's (closed now). It was a horrible job and I was glad to get out of there, but I liked the area well enough and it was nice to be able to walk over to take a dinner break at M&E's or the Coney Island at the mall before going back to work until midnight or whatever (like I said...horrible job). I liked to hang around Ann Arbor when I could, would usually work until about 8pm on Fridays and then head over to the Eight Ball Saloon or wherever until the wee hours. Dearborn was also great to visit for "Lebanese" (actually usually run by Palestinians) food and there were also seedy "gentlemen's clubs" everywhere to distract a 20something guy who was working way too much for an hour or two. Got married after leaving there, that was my last taste of bachelor life!

BTW, I love winter because I love to ski. I grew up in the Midwest and having the seasons change is important to me...that said, I'm not looking forward to going home tonight and trying to guess when the freezing rain is going to end so I can snowblow before the plain rain makes the snow on the ground too heavy.

That last pic flashed me back uncomfortably to Sinister 2...

Its only -8F just now when I went out to check the mileage/inspect a fleet truck. I just went out in my short sleeved shirt as it isn't cold enough to warrant a jacket. If I was staying out longer than 5 mins I would have to wear a hoodie or a light sweater as the wind chill is brisk at -21F

Its going to -13F tonight so I will probably put on a light jacket when I go get the mail and shovel a walk of a neighbor a block or so away. I might even wear some thin gloves...who knows.

Cold is a relative term, if you have coolant for blood like most true Canadians do, temps like 29F are simply delightful. When you get to 73F, well that is just sweatbox uncomfortable until I get acclimated to it.

Coldest it's gotten here this year was -31 below. I hate winter and the cold, I'd love to migrate south in the winters, but, no such luck yet. Someday, hopefully!
